Females In the PupPlay Community

I love being a puppy. I love that other people love being puppies too, and that I have many that I can share my love with- people who understand.

Now, as most will know, most of these puppies who share my love are male.

I love guys. In school, I would always hang out with a bunch of guys who I spent a lot of time with (in and out of school), and one of which became my first boyfriend. I’ve always preferred the a-lot-less-dramatic attitudes that seem to be prevalent in groups of guys than in a group of girls. I love guys and how they can be great friends and confidantes, same as any gender.

But I have a pet peeve (ironic name) that I didn’t know about until Willow started making appearances. It really annoys me that in most websites, books, resources, entertainment formats and documentaries, human pups are referred to as ‘he’. Automatically, and more often than not, it is assumed that anyone reading about puppy play, or wanting to discover more, is a male.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I know that most puppies ARE male, and that the kink itself is so very gay leather. I love that so many guys were able to band together and enjoy something they enjoy. Good for them. But save some room for the girls, boys!

We exist too, in small numbers, and not as outspoken (for the most part), and maybe it’s our own fault that we haven’t been openly accepted by all in the pup scene, or even acknowledged. Hell, I’m sure some puppies in the world don’t even know there are female pups!

You say ‘puppy play’ to someone, and automatically a kitted out male on all fours with a hood springs to mind. Maybe a bare chest and harness, maybe a chain leash being held by a big, burly, tattooed man. A lot of the time, its partly because the majority of the heavier gear is made for males, and does not take into consideration the female chest/body.

Stereotypes in general are awful things, but they are the base of people’s perceptions nevertheless, and it just doesn’t compute in societies (vanilla or otherwise) preconceived ideas that female pups are also present in the scene. It’s no one’s fault – it’s just fact.

Things aren’t going to change overnight, and maybe will never change. But I would ask those of you who speak to others about puppy play, those who create the resources, those who write the books and websites, who make the documentaries… please try and remember the female pups of the world. We, like you, love this wonderful kink that gives us a place in the world, and we have so much to offer, just as you have so much to offer us. We just need the chance, the acceptance, and the acknowledgment.

Puppies and handlers can be all genders. Biopups know no such bounds of social assumptions. Let us be the human pups we are. A rare breed that stick together, no matter what. And chase that stick. And that squirrel… and that ball…
