Major Community Milestones

A document written on parchment dated to England in the 1660’s describe a regular scene at a royal court where people dressed and acted like certain animals to their sexual dominance and submissiveness (For later related activities). Dominant styles had people roleplay major predators like lions, tigers, birds of prey and also wolves. Submissive styles had people roleplay animals of work like horses, donkeys, cattle and dogs.

Oldest known photograph of fetishized Animal Roleplay was a woman in Paris, France in 1912 sporting only a leopard print underwear with a tail attached.

DinSky (Dungeon in the Sky) London, U. K. In September 95 DinSky saw the first SM Show dog trails. There were just 3 contestants, but the show attracted a lot of interest from the public at that time. It was for this event that The Dog House venue was first launched to test the water of interest. This was an all gender and sexuality inclusive event and venue.

Oldest known website at thedoghouse.org was founded in 1997 after their success of creating an all-inclusive space for pup play, it existed till Mid 2007. Here is an extract from its original homepage.

“This club is for pan-sexual dog boys and bitches – humans with a animal soul. Not forgetting  the Owners, Trainers, Masters or  Mistresses who like them that way. If you want to explore the animal within, underground SM, are seeking a Master/Owner or slave pup, this is the place for you.”

Oldest Known pup workshop held in England at DinSky London, 9 August 1997. “Two dozen hot men attended, some on leash with their Masters. With the able help of Master Bob and dog “Rusty”, demonstrated time-tested techniques for getting your man down to all fours — and back to two legs (reluctantly) — using four-legged bondage, hypnosis techniques, leash work and other technical aspects of bringing a man into the dog head. The workshop also covered the S/M roleplay aspects of canine scenes: emulating dog behaviour, status dynamics and power exchanges, and how life on all fours can have a positive effect on the mind and spirit as well as the body.”

First mainstream television mention of fetishized pup play occurred on the tv show ‘Will and Grace’ which was screened on November 1998 (Season 1, Episode 6) (This was a straight couple dynamic presented with a female handler)

First ever annual outdoor event called Wildlife Refuge was held near Chicago of August 1999. A campground space for a weekend for different fetish interests including pups to relax and have a chance to express themselves in the outdoors for a weekend. By 2001 they had partnered up with LeatherDog.com to host pup play seminars and workshops at the annual event to help educate newcomers to the pup scene.

First mentioned in academic journal as “Species Dysphoria” with a generalised description of
“the sense of being in the wrong [species’] body…a desire to be an animal”

While the oldest form of the term used in 1997, it wasn’t academically mentioned with pup play until 2001.

First International Puppy Competition hosted in Houston, USA and was won by Pup Ray (aka northpup) with the Oldest known dog pride flag was publicly unveiled at this inaugural IPC event in Houston, TX. (Later changed its name to IPTC: International Puppy and Trainer Competition and then it IPAHW: International Puppy and Handler Weekend)

The flag had vertical “bear pride” flag stripes of colour in the background with a plain back silhouette of a Doberman head in the centre foreground. This was designed by Scott Steverson in 2001

Eagle Leather, a fetish store in Melbourne, Australia designed and sold the first ever pup tail and the original version was made with a wooden plug, dipped in vinyl plastic. screwed in to a leather wrapped spring. The plug part was later designed to be solid vinyl.

Mr S Leather Started selling their first ever pup hood, This was a leather (Black and Tan) hood with a zipper around the mouth part.

K9 Unit San Francisco Is the oldest running pup play social group that is still operational. Founded in November 2004

To date, there is no record of a leather or fetish event holding a pup mosh or pup-centric event until MAL in 2008. (Although we have pups recorded to been present and “pupping out” at IML in the early 80’s) and the oldest unofficial pup event at one of these events that’s been found has been a pup gathering by the San Fran group at IML in 2006.

First time pups and handlers in the (Pups of The North/Puppy Pride) walked in London, U.K Pride March. There was 6 participants. London Pride march pup group now has over 180 marchers each year. Pups and handlers on an individual basis have been participating in pride marches for far longer though.

December: Public Release of the academic paper “An Exploratory Study of a New Kink Activity: “Pup Play” by Liam Wignall & Mark McCormack” Since then there are at least three known university research projects related to pup play underway and the large biannual periodic survey community project.

Taiwan Rainbow Pup Group was founded in 2017.
